United Sports Culture is an English-language publication about the meanings people make around sport. We look at belonging, rituals, stories, language and creative expression: the strands that connect a game to the lives around it.

What we cover

Our subjects include the customs people share, the stories attached to sporting places and objects, the language used to describe a game, and the ways sport is expressed through sound, image and memory. We favour subjects that remain interesting beyond one result or season.

Who it is for

This publication is for curious readers, whether they follow a sport closely or are just beginning to notice the culture around it. You do not need specialist knowledge to follow along; each piece starts with a particular detail and takes time to explain why it matters.

How we approach a subject

We aim for specific, considered writing rather than sweeping claims about what all supporters or communities think. A ritual can mean different things to different people, and a sporting tradition can change. We make room for that variety while keeping each piece clear and grounded.
